“The parable of the ten virgins reminds us that readiness is not a one‑time event but a daily posture of the heart. The oil that kept the wise virgins’ lamps burning represents the living faith, love, and good works that sustain us; without it, even the most beautiful intentions can go dark when the Bridegroom arrives. In today’s world, distractions and complacency can lull us into spiritual sleep, just as the virgins fell drowsy while waiting. We are called to examine the source of our oil—prayer, Scripture, and acts of charity—and to replenish it continually. Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians echo this urgency. The wisdom of the world, measured by success or clever arguments, cannot save us. Only the “foolishness” of the cross, the humility of Christ’s sacrifice, offers true insight and power. When we embrace that humility, we gain the strength to keep our lamps alight, trusting that God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. The Psalmist’s declaration that “the counsel of the LORD stands firm forever” gives us confidence that God’s promises are unshakable. Even when we feel uncertain about the future, we can rest in the certainty of God’s word, which fuels our vigilance. Let the truth of God’s steadfast love be the light that guides our steps, especially in moments of darkness or doubt. Practically, this means setting aside intentional time each day to nurture our relationship with Christ—through prayer, Scripture, and service—so that the oil of our faith never runs low. As we go about our daily tasks, we keep an eye on the horizon, ready to welcome the Lord whenever He comes, knowing that the exact hour remains a mystery.”
